Our Story

For over 50 years people of Hartlepool have been enjoying a taste of delicious fresh home baked Fruit Cakes & Artisan Breads from the Mary Lambert Artisan Bakery Hartlepool. Today these artisan delights are available on line for delivery world wide or for local click and collect from the Villiers Street Bakery in Hartlepool.

Born on a farm in Easington Mary started work developing her skills at a local bakery in Blackhall Co Durham where her dream to open her own bakery was to begin, that dream became a reality when she opened her first shop at 10 Northgate Hartlepool and whilst times and tastes have changed the quality and value ideals Mary started with still remain. Today with the third generation joining the team the family business remains steeped in family values, cultures and traditions following Mary’s ethics of quality which which are proudly represent today.

Today there is a wealth of experience in baking traditional artisan delights including handmade breads, quiche and scones. All our delicious fruit cakes are hand made in Villiers street with vine fruits real butter fresh eggs, some are enriched with brandy for a more intense flavour, all from a 100 year old recipe handed down from Mary’s mother. Real artisan bread and cakes from the finest ingredients hand crafted using traditional skills to supply other businesses, restaurants and hotels, or of course to take home and enjoy with the family.

The Villers Street Bakehouse

Our new larger premises at Villiers street incorporates a contemporary café where you can enjoy all of our hand baked goods along with the finest italian coffee and a tempting range of freshly made breakfasts, soups, salads, sandwiches and cakes with all made fresh here in the Villiers street bakehouse. From our hand cut coleslaw to handmade artisan breads and buns for our sandwiches, it’s all made fresh every day along with traditional baked goods including scones, quiches, cakes and pastries including Mary’s legendary vanilla slices, florentines and much more.
